Description
This antique 1920's to 30's Chemistry Science Laboratory work table is HUGE!  This piece would make an awesome workbench or large kitchen island or a tavern bar pub table use.  It measures 72 in long, 44.5 in wide, and 33 in tall. The solid hard maple slab top is almost 2 inches thick.  An iron sink plate sits center of the table, & steel poles (unpictured) form a frame in the center above the table allows tools to hang.  There are 4 other portholes, 2 on each side of the sink area for other attachments; with the possible utilization for plumbing water for a sink.  There are slots for electricity on either cupboard end.  On each long side are 4 deep drawers for a total of 8 drawers so it works like a partners desk.  There is a 2 door cupboard below in the center that opens up to both sides so you have 4 doors all together and you have access from both sides to the same space. There are iron brackets on the end cupboard corners for 4 oak chairs to be attached: the chairs are stored in our barn so they are difficult to photograph...they need to be cleaned with steel wool and oil or wax.  They all look in great condition except for very heavy dust.  The old oak wood is solid and thick.  There are 6 matching chairs so you can choose which 4 you want.  The chairs attach with iron posts into the table bracket slots which makes them quite solid and sturdy as well as able to swivel as they were meant for studious chemistry students :).  You could easily pull up table bar stools as well with plenty of leg room off side the cupboard part.  The maple top could use a heavy clean and oil job, it still has quite a bit of good finish to it.  The drawers and base look a little rough and need to be cleaned but could be scrubbed up and waxed or left.  It is doweled, dovetailed and all the nice joinery a good craftsman would expect in an older made piece of furniture.  The top is removeable for moving.  It has always been stored indoors in a tool shop with the chairs in a dry barn.  It is heavy and large so buyer must be prepared to do all the lifting so bring help.  Older antique chemistry tables are extremely hard to come by, especially complete with chairs.  This could be adapted nicely for a new house or an older remodel house for a country kitchen island or workbench office area as it has all the patina and character of a very rare and unusual piece.  This could also be utilized for an industrial or business or manufacturing work table or bench, think 'inventions', as it has the chairs for either several people or for different projects to be tended to.  It is very hard to photograph due to size and the table end is covered with heavy things.  You are most welcome to view it in person.  Due to its size the buyer will need to make all arrangements for picking this piece up or having it shipped.  We cannot do any lifting or wrapping.  If you have any questions, please email to ask or, if you have many questions, email us for a phone number.  We are starting it out at a very low price for such a very rare find.  Due to high internet fees we will not be accepting paypal on this item.  WE WILL consider offers;  we are unable to change the format to a best offer as this is a relisting that started out at $1600.  Questions?  Call #503-949-8569.  Thanks!
