For the last few weeks, needle work and sewing items from a New England collectors estate have been offered. The collection spanned the 19th and 20th centuries and contained items from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. You are bidding for a velvet covered, bead and stain trimmed needle case. Circa 1880s. Hand made from black velvet over cardboard. The interior was covered with a white color light voile type fabric and has pale blue silk satin trim. The case is fan or basket shaped and the edges were trimmed with clear glass beads and there is a four petal flower or cross shape on the front cover. White silk ribbon was used to tie the top together and for the closure. There are a couple of very fine needles still inside. Back cover was made from a light red challis wool fabric. Measures approximately 3" x 3 1/4". As you can see there is some wear to the ribbons and back; also some bead loss and the ties are still knotted (fabric is too fragile to untie). Bidding starts at $25 with no reserve.
