For the last few weeks, needle work and sewing items from a New England collectors estate have been offered. The collection spanned the 19th and 20th centuries and contained items from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Up for auction is a lot of sewing thimbles ranging in age from the 1890s to the 1940s. You are bidding for all 1 pieces in the lot. The thimbles vary and were made from brass, silver plate, porcelain, plastic and a few are silver. Sizes also range from a small size 3 thimble (probably for a child) to a size 12. Unusual pieces include a Delft porcelain thimble, a thimble without a top and a plastic 4H thimble. Most are in very good to excellent condition though tarnish has effected some of the brass and silver thimbles. The oldest thimble is silver, quite worn, has holes in the top, out of round (well used by the original owner and probably handed down in the family). Bidding starts at $25 with no reserve.
