Description
SquareTrade © AP6.0 About our model AMERICA'S CUP SHAMROCK: About the America's Cup:The America's Cup is one of international sport's oldest trophies. In 1851, a syndicate of wealthy New Yorkers commissioned a sleek new yacht, named America, and crossed the Atlantic to take on the best of the British fleet. In a race around the Isle of Wight, America won with ease and her owners bore away the 100 Guinea Cup in triumph. The trophy, named after the winning yacht, has been known as the America's Cup ever since. For 132 years, the Cup resided at the New York Yacht Club. In that time, the club successfully defended the Cup 25 times - setting up the longest winning streak in sporting history. The Cup has only been won away from the United States twice, the first time in 1983 by Australia and the second time in 1995 by New Zealand. The only successful defense of the America's Cup outside of the United States was in 2000, when Team New Zealand defeated the Prada Challenge of Italy by 5-0. SHAMROCK HISTORY: SHAMROCK V, a J Class Sloop, designed by the great Charles Nicholson, was the last of Sir Thomas Lipton's five America's Cup challengers. She is the oldest true J Class. Recently restored she joined Endeavour and Velsheda to celebrate an America's Cup 150th year Jubilee in Cowes, England in August 2001.   Between 1930 and 1939 the America's Cup races in Newport were sailed on enormous J-class boats.  Sir Thomas Lipton (Lipton Tea) built Shamrock in 1930 as one of the first of the J-class boats and she was one of the best floating sights in Newport Harbor. Shamrock was owned by Newport's International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) headquartered right on the Thames St. waterfront, but now Shamrock is privately owned and rarely seen in Newport.   The racing sloop was restored and modernized and the new owners are revamping it.   On the water there is absolutely nothing to match the sight of Shamrock. The flag at the top of the mast is 160 ft. above the water (about the height of a 16-story office building). The hull is wood and the length is 120 ft. overall. When the wind is just right, the sails move the 146 ton sloop up to 12.5 knots.   Brand new item in box! Hand made and hand painted.  The hull is made plank-on-frame.  All the things you would expect to see on the Shamrock.  Beautiful high polish wood and blue above water line makes this unique piece stand out.  Makes a great gift or addition to a collectors collection. Will look wonderful on a mantle, in the den, or in the library. Measures 35" length and 49" height. This is not a kit!  It is not made for water.  It is constructed to make a beautiful display center piece.  100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEE!!!   Approximate Specifications: Length:  35 in.Height:   49 in.  HULL COLOR: Natural polished wood & Blue.                                                                           Check out my other items!                                     Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
