Please email me at info@tookalook.com This is magnificent pair of figurative vessels from the Quimbaya Culture of Columbia, approx Ca. 200 BC. With each vessel having its own position the couple is immediately recognizable as a rare matched pair. Obviously, both have the pitted, oxidized surface one would expect from centuries spent underground. Both are in wonderful condition (w/ a few little issues of losses as seen), down to the male's genitals and hat like brimmed edge. From a private Montreal, Canada collection, the enclosed are accompanied by authenticity certificates from one of Bogota's finest galleries/dealers. While the documents are in Spanish, their content are easy enough to decipher, dealing first with each works position, surface and coffee bean eyes. They go on to mention the works as Quimbaya Culture, specifically from the Armenia region. Approx 200 BC, the works are of red clay and are obviously handmade. There is another reference to the male's surface in particular, something about it having acquired a feature during its interment.
