Description
Current Lot A Russian large silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel bowl Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1899-1908 supported on four feet, cast, chased, and engraved as stylized gryphons, the flared foot enamelled with a band of translucent blue scales above a red enamel border decorated with filigree scrolling, the bulbous sides with two interlocking lobed bands, the lower with flowerheads on alternating red and translucent turquoise grounds, the upper band with a similar design on alternating pink and pale-green grounds, the broad rim with lobed panels of stylized flowers, the flattened border with formal foliage and set with cabochon hardstones, the shaped scroll handles enamelled with flowers and similarly set with cabochon stones, one missing, maker's mark beneath Imperial Warrant 18cm maximum high, 31.5cm wide across handles, 24.5cm diameter Provenance: Christie's New York, The Greenfield Collection of Russian Enamels, 20th October 1998, lot 149 Sotheby's New York, Fabergé, Russian Works of Art, Objects of Vertu and Silver, 14th June 1989, lot 325 Christie's Geneva, 19th November 1979, lot 240
