Description
ANTIQUE 4 FOOT TALL CHINESE STATUEQING DYNASTY - JIAQING 1796-1820EVALUATED ON ANTIQUE ROAD SHOW BY JAMES CALLAHANFOR UP TO $60,000SHOWN ON TELEVISION ON APRIL 26, 2008 WELCOME! Offered is likely one of the best finds in the way of Oriental Antiques that you will find on eBay this year, possibly even for years to come! This beautiful nearly 4 foot tall (47 inches) statue was evaluate by James Callahan on the Antique Road Show this past summer in Louisville, Kentucky! It was just shown on television on 4-26-2008! The owners were told that it was one of 4 that Mr Callahan had ever had the priveldge of seeing and the nicest by far! It is from the early 1800s circa 1800 to 1820 during the Jiaqing Period of the Qing Dynasty! That makes it approximately 200 years old! The statue is hand painted with such amazing detail! So lifelike! He reminds me of the mudmen and is very heavy like pottery and very solid although he has a hollow core! I believe by looking inside and examining him, that he is actually Paper Mache! His head is removable as is his hand! Other than that, he is one piece! At one point, he held a fan in his hand! As is often the case with his much smaller cousins, the fan was broken at some point in time, but the pieces are still included and could be easily repaired but should be done by a knowledgable experienced specialist! The fan is broken free of his hand and broken in half with clean breaks! This masterpiece is not signed, or at least a signature has not been found or recognized! It would be difficult to believe that this was ever mass produced because of its size and the lack of them showing up in antique stores or fairs! According to Mr Callahan, this statue is worth up to $60,000! The owners have authorized us to offer it for much lower than that, and will consider serious offers! The paint has minimal loss with the most notable spot being the dime size spot on his forehead! His thumb on the hand that held the fan has been securely re-attached in a rather inconspicuous manner! He is a very rare and fabulous find! He will be a prized addition to your Oriental Collection! SHIPPING: Do to the delicate nature of this item, it will need special care for packing and shipping! EMAIL US HERE:SKYLITEPERSIANSWE ARE ALWAYS PLEASED TO SHIP WORLDWIDE! Did you know?...Items listed in ebay stores do not show up in routine ebay searches and can only be found by clicking the link to our store! Don't miss the spectacular items we are offering there! Check out my other items! The white spot you see in the right center of his back is not present on the statue. It is something in the photo from the camera flash or perhaps something on the lens. For further clarification, please see close up photo of the same area below. There is a limited area in the low left hand corner of this photo that shows what may have been an area that was damp at some point. This item has been in one families possession for approximately the past 50 years and has never been damp or wet during that time. The area is sturdy and has no ill effects, but is mentioned for accuracey. Mr Callahan stated that the minimal damages to this item from the years, have little effect on the value and have been considered in his evaluation! This should be considered more of a disclosure, than of a problem as it is secure and only shows upon closer inspection. We welcome any questions or opinions and are always happy to email additional photos! Please visit our other auctions and save with combined shipping! Lots of items listed daily and priced to move quick! We are always overstocked with more estates pouring in daily!
