Description This is for a 2-piece blue/white Jacquard coverlet signed "New Holland". The date is not decipherable. This is almost certainly from New Holland, PA, a borough of Lancaster County. A Checklist of American Weavers (The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, 1980) identifies 4 different coverlet weavers in New Holland PA. Whoever wove this one chose not to add his or her name. The colors are an attractive brick or rust red and bright navy blue on linen. Condition is exellent - among the best I've seen. Very little fringe or edge wear, almost no moth damage, good strong colors, and very heavy. If you've got to have them near mint, this one's worth considering. The coverlet is especially large at approximately 86" wide by 92" high. This is part of a collection of 19th Century woven coverlets that I will be selling with reasonable starting prices on ebay this Fall.
