Description
This is for a 2-piece blue/white double weave Jacquard coverlet dated 1846 with the "Lily" cornerblock, which has been attributed to an early James Craig trademark. Craig was a weaver in several locations in Indiana. He was probably in Andersonville, just over the Franklin-Decatur County line when he wove this coverlet. The reference for this information is on pages 18-19 of "Indiana Coverlet Weavers and Their Coverlets" by Pauline Montgomery (Hoosier Heritage Press, 1974). As with all double weaves, the colors are reversed on the two sides (compare photos #1 with #2, and #3 with #4); and there are 4 corner blocks (instead of the usual 2), a very nice device not commonly used. It also shows that the coverlet has not been cut down. Condition is good, but not outstanding. The coverlet was made without fringe, except the bottom border, where it is somewhat worn. There is some staining, a couple small holes, and several smaller worn spots. These worst of these are pictured in Photos #6-#8. Still the coverlet displays well, and has nice graphics. The coverlet's dimensions are approximately 72" wide by 83" long. This is part of a collection of 19th Century woven coverlets that I will be selling with reasonable starting prices on ebay this Fall. I have accumulated these over the past 30 years. UPS ground shipping to the lower 48 is $15.00, including insurance. International shipping cost provided upon request. I do not charge "handling" fees. Payment by Paypal, money order or cashier's check is preferred. I also accept personal checks if you have >100 positive feedback with a 98% or higher feedback rating. Bid with confidence, as I have over 6,000 positive feedback and a 100% seller satisfaction rating. Please check out my other auctions for a variety of folk art (Grenfell mats, hooked rugs, and other woven coverlets from my personal collection), early pottery, prints, and other interesting items with reasonable starting prices. Your satisfaction is guaranteed on all your ebay purchases from me. I am one of the few ebay sellers that offer "no questions asked" 7-day return and refund (less shipping cost).
