This is a masterfully painted old Imari bowl with traditional “Old Imari” palette. The palette consists of underglaze cobalt blue, orange, and green. The bowl is extensively highlighted with gold on both the interior and exterior, however, some of the gold appears to have worn off the exterior. The interior center design consists of a cobalt blue painting of a boat and waves. The walls of the bowl interior have three elaborate floral designs and three brocade panels in blue, orange and gold. The same intricate patterns are found on the outside of this beautiful bowl. This is an excellent example of Japanese art. The bowl has a scalloped rim and has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairline cracks. The interior glaze is unblemished and shows no evidence of scratches, wear, or use. There is a slight flaw in the glaze base, which appears to have occurred during firing as it is glazed over.
