When this coverlet is reversed, the amazing colors give it a completely different look. This coverlet was woven with red wool, dark blue wool, and cream cotton. It measures 73" wide by 84" long, plus the fringe- approximately 2" in length on the sides and 4" long on the bottom border. The top edge of this textile has a rolled hem. The main pattern in this design is known as the snowball pattern. The outer border contains three double trunked pine trees that are repeated on 3 sides. This coverlet is in very good condition, and I cannot find fault with it. Similar patterned coverlets are illustrated in "America’s Quilts and Coverlets" by Carleton Safford and Robert Bishop and also in "American Quilts and Coverlets in the Metropolitan Museum of Art" by Amelia Peck.
