Auctioning: Rare, Fine Trompe- L'Oeil Silver Gold Gilded Cake basket   Artist: IVAN KHLEBNIKOV   SILVER Trompe-L'Oeil Cake basket, Origin: Moscow, ca 1890  FABERGE IMPERIAL Russian SILVER! REFERENCES:  PLEASE CHECK THE  SOTHEBY'S SALE: Faberge, NEW YORK DEC 15 87, lot #224.    18 years ago the estimate is $1500, but it was sold for much more. Today the retail is is about tripled! also please check the  basket at Sotheby's NY Russian sale June 6 1995- lot # 197- that basket was appraised at $7,000-9,000!  This is a great 19th century   Russian SILVER Trompe-L'Oeil Cake basket, (about 11+Oz of silver!!!)   by famous  Moscow Silversmith Ivan Khlebnikov -   Imperial Russia, ca 1890. Marked clearly  - cannot picture it by my camera, but will try once more.  marked and good clearly visible- hall mark: "khlebnikov " in Cyrillic ,"Imperial Eagle" "84, AP +some other mark I cannot read". The Cake basket is oval shape on nice round legs Chased to simulate basket weave and with an overlaid "napkin" with wirework handles . Gilded  but just some of  Gold remains. Heavily detailed and engraved all over- a beauty!! Great condition, great old patina , no dents on silver. The eBay estimate is $5,000-7,500   Firm of Khlebnikov founded in 1870 in Moscow by Ivan Khlebnikov who worked in Petersburg before.. The factory employed 200 craftsmen in 1882. In 1881 the firm was granted the title of Court Supplier and the right to include the Imperial two headed Eagle in its trade mark. From 1873 the firm took part in All-Russia and World Art exhibitions and won prizes. . In 1881 after Ivan's death his sons Michael , Alexey, Vladimir and Nikolay took over .
