DON’T*TELL*DADDY*THE*PRICE PRESENTS ~VICTORIAN~ROMANCE~ One Of A Kind Antique Textile Pillows and Purses Stunning Antique Metal Embroidery WELCOME TO MY AUCTION As I rapidly approach my 11th FABULOUS year on Ebay I would like to take a moment to extend a warm and heartfelt THANK YOU to all my amazing customers who have made it possible for me to build and maintain a successful business in this wonderful new selling arena. The words *thank you* seem inadequate. I have been blessed with an outstanding group of repeat customers from around the world, and I am constantly humbled by your feedback and emails. Many, many thanks from the bottom of my heart. Now as my 5th child gets closer to school age I am finding I have a little more time to dedicate to my Ebay work, so please keep watching in the New Year as I add my Boutique Custom Design Service to my listings. I have been overwhelmed with requests for this service and have not previously had the time to dedicate to it. As more of my time becomes available I will be able to accommodate this feature. Again a huge THANK YOU to my customers.....you are the BEST!! Offered here for your consideration is another pillow from my antique / Victorian range. This pillow has been hand crafted by me with antique and new fabrics. The focal point on this pillow is the stunning and rare metal embroidery piece that dates to the mid 1800s. The fabric itself is a shimmering gold spun textile that has been embellished with metal embroidery and appliqués. These appliqués were created with gold tone metalic wire and are tiny little works of art in themselves. I see these appliqués fairly regularly but they are usually in poor condition, missing numerous strands, and with very dark patina. The ones on this piece are remarkably in tacked and still retain their gold shimmer. Of course commensurate with their age they do show a little wear but this wear is what I would describe as minor for this type of work. I have tried to show each one in a close-up and also on an angle so you can see the beauty and depth of the embroidery. The embroidery is finished with a deep red thread over the rope section and also highlighting the petals on the rose. For this reason the complimentary fabric I have used is a perfect reverse match. Where the embroidery is gold with a touch of red, the fabric is red with a touch of gold. On the sides of the embroidered piece I have added a 19th century gold metal lace trim that was unused and in perfect condition. I placed it so that the red fabric shows through, further highlighting the contrasts of red and gold. This stunning antique metal lace is entirely hand stitched in place with gold thread. Above and below I have used more 19th century trim, this time a gold ribbon trim. They are very similar except the one on the base has a thin gold strip overlay. I know from some of my research that 24ct gold was often used on these trims but I cant say for certain that this one is true gold or not. It is certainly a lovely compliment to the embroidery. This pillow is finished all around with a gold satin piping and the reverse is heavy weight gold satin fabric. I have filled this pillow with soft fiberfill and hand stitched it closed. It measures approximately 18 ½” x 15”. As with all my pillows, all the seams are serged and it is completely lined front and back, with new unbleached cotton which stabilizes the vintage fabric, reinforces my hand stitching, and helps reduce day to day stress. It will extend the life of this pillow so you can enjoy it for many years to come. It is very carefully constructed so you will have a true heirloom quality creation for the future. This stunning pillow displays some of the best antique embroidery work I have come across and is sure to be a focal point for a room that demands elegance of the highest standards. I know from my own ebay browsing that there are often antique *creations* out there that show very little detail despite having obvious condition problems. I always use pieces in great antique condition and there are will be no unpleasant surprises. I also try to take many pictures so you can clearly see the quality of the item you are looking at, but if you require more please don’t hesitate to email me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many of the textiles I am using now are well over 100yrs old and commensurate with their age often have blemishes of some description. I try my best to work around these but occasionally the lesser ones must be included in order to make use of the textile. I feel these do not detract anything from the beauty or value, and actually add to the authentic feel. I will always mention anything significant. After a few years collecting these really antique pieces I have come to realize that it is very rare indeed to find an unblemished 18th or 19thC textile. Those are the ones I don’t dare cut. Back to the point at hand…if you are after a perfect showroom look rather than the character and charm of genuine antique, then possibly one of my new pillows would be a better choice for your bid rather than this one. This auction is for the one antique embroidery pillow described and pictured above only. IMPORTANT I welcome new members to Ebay….we were all new sometime. But if you have less than 10 positive feedback or excessive negatives you need to contact me before you bid so I can clarify the buying rules with you and make sure you understand your legal obligations regarding transactions. I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you do not contact me first. I will also have ebay cancel the transaction if you choose to go ahead with one of my buyitnow items without contacting me first. Thank you for your understanding.PAYMENTS...Payments must be made within 10 days. You will find me to be very reasonable regarding payments. I feel 10 days is a very generous time limit, HOWEVER if you are having some kind of difficulty or would like to make further arrangements all you need do is contact me and discuss this. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO GOOD BUSINESS ON EBAY. If no payment or communication is received within 10 days I will lodge a non-paying-bidder dispute. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY PAYMENTS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY INVOICE. I CAN ONLY COMBINE SHIPPING IF YOU PAY MULTIPLE ITEMS TOGETHER. PLEASE WAIT FOR MY INVOICE. NY residents to pay 8% NY State TaxSHIPPING The lovely *powers that be* in ebay management have seen fit to make yet more shipping and payment changes, basically following their recent pattern of copying ideas directly from their main competitor (you know, that jungle organization). If you refer to the calculated shipping rate above, it does not include the cost of any of the supplies I use. A small handling cost will be added in some cases. The priority boxes I use for single totes are free, however if you are buying multiple items or pillows I will be using one of the larger boxes I buy...these cost me $1.80 each but I will only charge you $1.00. I am sorry to do this but with all the extra charges ebay is inflicting on sellers lately, I have to cover some of my incidental costs....or go broke selling here. Because my pillows are usually large I will always offer you the choice of shipping priority or parcel post. Parcel post takes a few more days but is sometimes significantly lower in cost. It is definitely something to consider if you are buying more than one tote or pillow. I have a large family I cannot get to the post office every single day. I usually ship twice a week, however if you are in a hurry to get your item please email me and I will do my best to send your item within 24hrs of payment. Again, communication is the key. Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you find a special treasure to fall in love with here. A Note On Ebay Fees I am about to enter my 11th year on ebay and feel compelled to write a little about some things that have changed. As buyers of handcrafted items I’m sure you like to have a wide variety of items to choose, from many different sellers. If you start to see less items and less sellers it probably has a lot to do with these changes ebay is making. Years ago it was the perfect venue for the part time seller to list a few items from time to time. Fees were fair, payment methods were varied, and the general atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Ebay encouraged sellers, and the simple brilliance of this new selling venue was enough to bring in millions of new shoppers every year without the need for expensive advertisements on TV. The last few years have seen a lot of unpleasant changes but the most recent ones are surely the breaker for many. Ebay made such a fuss recently about reducing listing fees by a small percentage but said very little about the very large raise in percentage of final value fees. It’s like they thought we would be celebrating so much, we wouldn’t realize we would actually be paying them much more. Its pretty sad to see that the ebay *powers that be* think we are that unintelligent. Its very disrespectful to the sellers, who are after all ebay’s income. To give buyers an idea of what we are up against, for example, if I sell a pillow for $55.00, ebay will be taking $8.00 to $10.00 of that. That includes my initial listing fees, a fee on the shipping cost, paypal fees and final value fees. Yes, lol, they charge us a percentage of the shipping the post office charges! They also make it very difficult to accept other forms of payment and some (competitors) are completely banned. So, combine this with the increasing cost of vintage fabrics, new fabrics and trims, shipping materials and the time put into making each item…you can see it’s an uphill battle to break even or make a small profit, and it’s a lot of work. These items don’t photograph and list themselves. As you consider my items and the prices I am charging please keep in mind that you are getting a quality item. I am a textile artist with a lifetime of formal and informal design and sewing experience and have always made my living with these skills. I closed my store many years ago as my family started to grow, and transferred my business online to this venue. I strive to create beautiful items that are of the highest quality and well worth the price. I hope ebay will make some positive changes soon because like you, I love to see variety and have a wide choice of sellers. I hate to see so many wonderfully creative people struggling to stay viable here. Please add me to your favorites list and also email me if you would like to be added to my mailing list.
