Description
Don't buy this piano if the price is what you consider most when searching for a piano.  Don't buy this piano because it is a nearly 100-year old Steinway.  Don't buy this piano because it was rebuilt in 1958 by the world's best German Steinway Technician.  Don't buy this piano because it spent ten years on tour with Crosby, Stills & Nash.  But DO buy this piano because it sings like no other piano.  This Steinway M Model (#170653) was delivered to St. Paul, MN on July 1, 1915.  It was owned by a wealthy family who ended up employing, as their technician, the piano tuner for CSN because he happen to live in The Twin Cities, Minnesota.  When not touring with the band he tuned pianos in his hometown.  He arranged with the elderly lady and original owner for the piano to be "loaned" to him so he could take it on tour with the band.  It was not being used whatsoever at the time.  He had a custom oak and padded box built for transporting the piano from show to show in their semi-trailer.  It shows no noticeable wear and tear.  Within less than a year after it was returned I bought it directly from the original owner because the same technician was tuning my former piano.  So, I am the second owner of this amazing instrument and have owned it since 1983.    The Steinway M Model was their original Baby Grand.  It was first produced in 1912 at 5' 6".  In 1914 it was lengthened to 5' 6.75"  Finally in 1918 it was lengthened another quarter inch to 5' 7", the same size it is still produced today.    It has recently been inspected and appraised for $75,000.  My current technician is from Germany and was trained by Steinway so his evaluation is credible.  He tells me it is his favorite piano of all the pianos he tunes around Southern California.  Once in a while there comes along an extraordinary instrument.  Everything is in tip-top shape.  The feel is moderately firm and it has very crisp action.  It has a very brilliant, bright, clean and expressive tone.  The fullness and richness is incomparable.  It can play PPP to FFF with distinction.  With the lid open it is almost deafening.  You won't believe this piano is less than six feet long!  The sustain will blow your mind.  It goes on and, the sound-waves harmonizing and resonating with overtones so it seems to go on forever.  I began Classical competition piano at age eight.  I have played hundreds, if not thousands of pianos and this is still my favorite. I have honestly never played anything better.  I would stack this piano up against any piano of any make or size.    It comes with a Humidistat and soundboard warming rod integrated to lie under the soundboard.  It also has a proper Steinway Music Light.  If you want a piano because of how it sounds and you appreciate feel, dynamics and brightness then you must make this piano become your own.  This is a very special and rare piano indeed.                   The item location is San Diego, California.
