Description
Marvelous, Unique Folk-Art Safe/Locking Cabinet w/ wooden hand-made, designed Locking Mechanism inside. 12 1/4 inches wide, 9 1/2 inches deep, 15 1/2 inches tall. The Locking Mechanism inside the hinged door is under glass, a later substitute to reveal the mechanism; the Original wood-panel wch hid the mechanism Is Included; it has a metal plate tacked onto it, about 1 x 3 inches, with the maker's info, hand-punched into the metal: MANF BY/ E L NATHAN.YOUNG/ CAMDEN. M.E/ OCTOBER. 24. 1874". Internally, there are 4 drawers w/ knobs: 2 on the top level, 2 on the bottom level, with a right-hinged Door-accessed double-wide middle compartment set in the middle. There are 3 External knobs which control the 4-pronged wooden lock-bolts (as in dead-bolt slide-construction); the 3 knobs must be turned in a particular sequence to open the safe/cabinet. The cabinet is decorated externally with additional wood trimmings in folk-art/tramp-art style. The construction is of full-length wood panels set inside an external frame; the rear and bottom are of unfinished wood; the internal contents (drawers) are set inside an additional wood frame, making the walls about an inch thick. The front and right side panels each have 1 vertical crack, and the top and left side panels have 2 vertical cracks each. These do Not expose the inside construction because of the doubled walls. A fascinating example of Yankee Ingenuity; date and maker known; quietly crafted, findable only if you trip over it. 15 pounds plus packing, figure 20 pounds. Buyer pays $25.00 UPS Shipping, (Lower 48 States Only, else Actual). I refund unused shipping rounded to the nearest dollar; I cover shipping shortfalls, if any.
