Description
Current Lot Attillio Piccirilli (Italian/ American, 1866-1945) fragelina White marble, depicting a nude young woman kneeling, one arm raised over her head, her other hand at her chin, on a rectangular cushion base.NOTE: The Italy born sculptor studied at the Accademia di San Luca of Rome, eventually emigrating to New York with his family in 1888. His father Guiseppe and five brothers were all marble cutters and sculptors and worked from the Piccirilli studio in the Bronx. Notable commissions were for the Maine Memorial in Columbus Circle, the Frick mansion, and the northern pediment on the Wisconsin State Capitol. H: 50 in.
