Current Lot George III Silver Sauceboats, London 1765 A fine pair of classically elegant footed sauceboats, with gadroon borders and foliate scroll handles with shell terminals. Hallmarks for London, 1765 with maker's marks rubbed but one showing an "R". Crafted in the same year as the Stamp Act, silver of this type represents the standards demanded by a British nobility and rapidly ascending colonial merchant class, many of whom made their fortunes in the "New World". Length 8-1/2". Total weight 36.07 ozt.
