The body of the tankard is beautifully hand chased and repouseed on a finely stippled background with a mythological forest scene including a man in a chariot accompanied by wine bearers, cupids, and musicians. The tankard has an Onslow scroll thumbpiece with good strap detail on the hinge and a heart shaped end to the handle. There is a presentation on the inside of the lid on the lip, "From CH: CH: Oxford." The piece is fully hallmarked on both the lid and the body with, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter T corresponding to the year 1734, and the maker's mark for Richard Burcombe who registered his mark in 1724. The maker's mark also appears on the handle. These marks are somewhat worn, but discernible. The tankard is in super condition. There is one small dent on the top of the handle. There is also a tiny dent on the lower handle which is inconsequential. The hinge on the lid is in great working order. There may have been a repair to the hinge or this may be how the hinge was originally constructed. Otherwise, the tankard is in great shape. There are no breaks, no monogram removals, and no problems. The tankard has a height of 7 inches. The diameter at the base of the tankard is 5 inches. The tankard weighs a solid 800 grams or 28 ounces or 25.7 troy ounces.
