Description
Current Lot Queen Anne Tankard Boston Museum of Fine Arts A rare and very handsome survivor made during the early colonial era, intended for drinking ale. This example has all the attributes expected in a fine Queen Anne tankard, including original domical cover and scroll billet, widely formed handle with heart-shaped terminal, a reference to the rapidly disappearing Middle Ages. The body is attractively engraved with an armorial featuring three pears, flanked by later engraved monograms, probably related to owners joined in marriage. Fully and clearly marked on both elements. Acquired by our consignor following recent deaccession from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Height 7-1/2". Weight 28 oz.
