This Saint Francis of Assisi depiction’s Mannerist intentionally exaggerated and elongated proportions, exquisitely fine artisanship of 16th Century Florence and Rome is NOT to be confused with more common, less refined, differently proportioned and far less valued much newer colonial figures. Evidence of silver-leaf gilding, worm damage, clear St. Francis subject, elegant lines, and craftsmanship further confirm its age and Old World Italian provenance. The piece's condition is stable now. Damage commensurate with its age includes the aforementioned worm damage, broken missing arms, and damage to the neck (see photos).
