Description
antiquetom Store ENGLISH STERLING SILVER WINE COOLER MODELLED AS  A POULTRY COMPETITION TROPHY Please ask for more photographs or information without obligation. SILVER HALLMARKS CAN BE A MINEFIELD ! I HAVE FOUND A VERY GOOD WEB PAGE FOR HALLMARKS , WHERE YOU WILL FIND MOST OF THE HALLMARKS OF THE WORLD. SO TYPE IN THE 3 Ws FOLLOWED BY : .925-1000.COM .  On offer from England is this spectacular sterling silver wine cooler  bearing the hallmarks  for Birmingham 1922  and the makers mark of  William Neale.  The cooler  is of  good  size and weight . The overall height is 14.2 inches , the diameters are ,  base ,  7 inches  ,  top   5.25 inches . The  weight is   1080 grams , about 34.7 troy ounces.  This  lovely  silver  wine cooler was designed as a trophy to be awarded for a poultry competition . The cylindrical cooler has a belled base and rim. Both top and base rims have beaded decoration . Above the upper raised band is a  running decoration of foliar and other motifs.  The lower raised band is  at wine bottle height . You can just see the top of a wine bottle in the  last image !   Between the two bands is a repousse garland around an oval cartouche. This  cartouche has a repousse decoration of a cockerel and a hen . Around the base is  running  decorative  foliar banding. The short  handles fold down through about 90 degrees as you can see from the series of images. On the base is an inscription which reads : PRESENTED BY LADY GREENALL   /   TO   /   THE BROWN LEGHORN CLUB   /   NOVEMBER 15TH  1922   /   COCKEREL TROPHY . On the back are the winners names from 1922 through to 1928. During this period , the trophy was won three times by Martin Nicholls , which as practice dictated , allowed him to retain the trophy in perpetuity . I am also offering on Ebay another trophy won by the same person for another cockerel show success . This other trophy tells us that he was in the Warrington Police Poultry Society . The whole is in EXCELLENT CONDITION and is beautifully polished ready to go on display.  For your guidance , I use the words " EXCELLENT CONDITION " only if it is ........., " GOOD CONDITION " to indicate that there are no serious condition problems , but that there may be surface blemishes such as light discolouration , minor dings , dents or scratches commensurate with the age of the piece.............. I use the words " REASONABLE CONDITION " to indicate that there are blemishes and dings ,dents, creases , scratches , ripples etc . Under this condition category I will always qualify such defects , but please ask if you want any clarifcation of damages to any given piece. The best way to check the quality of my stock offered on Ebay , my descriptions , packaging and general service is to read my feedback . I am very good ( and modest ! ) but don't take my word , read what other buyers have to say about me.SHIPPING TO ANY COUNTRY Shipping and handling to the USA by   Royal  Mail  Small  Packet  Airmail  Service will cost $50.00  plus the optional insurance ,covered under my own policy dedicated to antiques shipping arranged through Axa , of $10 per package up to $1000 value, $15  per package up to $5000 value .
