These are wonderful scenes of daily life in China in vivid colors, executed by a steady hand and a sense of humor.  The images are genre scenes of adults and children carrying baskets, with handcarts, horse and wagon, playing, etc,.  The water colors are marvellous. The detail work is very, very fine. "They are Chinese in origin and were painted around 1850. Such albums depicting scenes of daily life, scenery, flowers and birds were painted and exported to Europe where people could see and learn about life in China at that time." The book is approx 4 and 7/8 inches x 6 and 1/4 inhces drawing size, hand bound in multi colored silk covered boards.  There is no date, the first leaf with the artist's name; (chop)repaired with paper tape; the hinge on front cover is weak and has removed itself frrom the book and first page.  Price is firm and reflects discount for imperfections in binding, the drawings are otherwise intact.
