Made circa 1900 in Germany or Bavaria, each is in excellent condition, incised "961. // (logo)". The logo resembles a large snaky "C" wrapped around a "p" or "o". The pair measures 10" tall, 9" wide and 2.5" deep, with sturdy brass wire hangers on the back. The Goddess Leda is from ancient Greek mythology: Leda was badly treated by Zeus in the guise of a swan, and bore him many children (although they seem quite friendly on these pieces!). There are miniscule repairs to each plaque: Leda hugging Swan has ankle and one cattail reattached; the other has both pinkie fingers missing, and these certainly don't detract from the exquisite painted detail and fine relief porcelain work of this fascinating and gorgeous pair.
